Fashion and Connection Without Boundaries

The joy of dressing oneself should never be something only enjoyed by some. Similarly, the way we treat each other with decency, respect and appreciation should never be a luxury either. Bringing fashion together with connection, is the theme of our work this time with SEAM-SAORI Crossborders: International Festival for Arts, Inclusion and Diversity (IFAID), Hong Kong. The festival encourages that participants of all different backgrounds, inclusive to special needs participants to join.

We worked with 15 participants coming from different organisations to prepare them for a SAORI X Cat Walk Workshop. Saori is a weaving style based on the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-Sabi, or the acceptance of perfection. The "imperfections" such as the irregularities of weaving, broken threads, lumpy parts, asymmetric designs etc. all make up the uniqueness of each piece. Celebrating the uniqueness of each piece of SAORI weaving, we also celebrate the uniqueness of each individual wearing them.

Our company has provided the space for every individual to simply express themselves during the catwalk practice--to share their unique moves, the way they express their bodies. We also hold the space for different participants to reflect to each other the joy of their own expression and we learn by observing and accepting each other, without comparison. We encourage everyone the strutting of our sass with no holding back! Every participant will also have the chance to be deeply pampered and nurtured in a hair and makeup session that embrace their preciousness.
